FONTANA, CA – Surrounded by teammates, family and friends, Fontana High School senior Emely “Cuba” Obregon committed to attend Colorado Mesa University during a National Signing Day ceremony on Feb. 6.

Obregon, who first picked up a soccer ball when she was nine, will play for the Mavericks soccer team while pursuing a bachelor’s degree in psychology.

“I’m excited by the opportunity to continue playing soccer and to further my education,” Obregon said. “I’ve always found the mind interesting, so I look forward to learning about psychology and seeing where my studies take me.”

Obregon, who has maintained her status as an honor student while juggling volleyball, soccer and track and field, attributes her success to the support of her coaches and family.

“Cuba’s success demonstrates how athletics can open the doors to additional academic opportunities,” FOHI Athletic Director Brandon Colbrunn said. “She serves as a positive example and inspiration to FOHI students.”

ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥’s comprehensive high schools cultivate strong academic environments coupled with robust athletic programs to ensure student-athletes are challenged in the classroom and competitive on the field.
