FONTANA, CA – ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ K-12 students explored an array of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) subjects – from aerodynamics to mammalian biology – at its annual Science and Engineering Fair on Feb. 14 at A.B. Miller High School.

FUSD STEM Coordinator Leonard Fisher awarded medals to the top projects, then announced the names of students who will advance to the San Bernardino, Inyo and Mono counties (SIM) Science and Engineering Fair, to be held April 2-4 at the Auto Club Speedway. 

Summit High School sophomore Jet Mejia-Bothol shared a gold medal with his classmate Devon Perryman for their project, “Question or Accept: The Socio-Cultural Synthesis of the Human Mind.’ Mejia-Bothol and Perryman will both advance to the SIM Fair.

“Science gives you the freedom to explore and ignites your intellectual curiosity. The fair inspires me to endeavor the pursuits I’ve had in my head,” Mejia-Bothol said. “I am excited to go to the regional competition. I want to win it all!”

Fontana students probed subjects that sparked their curiosity, using common household items like candy, paper towels and batteries to investigate scientific principles and see if their conclusions matched their original hypotheses.

“I’m amazed by the quality, creativity and passion that I witnessed yesterday,” Fisher said. “Students, each of you should be very proud of your accomplishments and everything you’ve learned throughout this process. The skills will help proceed through life.”
