ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ High Schools Show Their Expertise at SkillsUSA Regional Competition
FONTANA, CA – ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ High School career technical education (CTE) students showed a wide range of expertise at the SkillsUSA Region 6 Conference in February, as competitors netted eight gold medals, six silver medals and 10 bronze medals across 13 events.
Summit High and Fontana High will send nearly 50 students to the SkillsUSA State Championship, to be held April 25-28 at the Ontario Convention Center.
Summit High students were awarded 18 medals for advertising design, computer programming, customer service, cyber security, entrepreneurship, information tech services and web design. Non-medalists in the fields of additive manufacturing and introductory ad design also advanced to state.
Fontana High students were awarded 8 medals for cabinetmaking, introductory woodworking, welding, oxy-acetylene welding- and shielded metal arc welding. ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ CTE instructors have redesigned and developed rigorous course curriculum, supported by a CTE Incentive Grant. The District’s new CTE pathways are designed to support students in college and career readiness, industry certifications, University of California/Cal admission requirements, college credit, and dual enrollment.
“I couldn’t be more proud of our students and CTE teachers, who have been learning these difficult skills and preparing for the regional events through SkillsUSA,” CTE Executive Director Tracey Vackar said. “Through the development of the District’s Career Technical Student Organizations, teachers have been able to provide leadership skills and expert guidance to their students.”
ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥’s College Careers and Economic Development Department has been able to secure grant funding to support student leadership support through Federal Perkins and California Career Technical Education Incentive Grant (CTEIG).
