• ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ International Baccalaureate Student Art Show Raises Money for Scholarships, Charity

    FONTANA, CA – Showcasing their creative talents in a variety of media, more than 40 Jurupa Hills High School International Baccalaureate (IB) art students contributed artwork for sale at the IB Charity Art Show, held April 5 in downtown Fontana.

    Proceeds from the show – which featured the work of both standard level (SL) and higher level (HL) art students – will be split between a charity selected by IB art students and the Fontana Foundation of Hope’s IB Scholarship Fund. 

    Jurupa Hills senior and HL student Jacqueline Perez channeled her pieces to emphasize her concern for the global environment, depicting pristine forests under constant threat of fire and houses engulfed by tsunami waves.

    “I feel that global warming is a major threat to our future and we have an obligation to conserve our resources,” Perez said. “Whether I am working with tempera, acrylic, watercolor or wax, I want to raise awareness of these issues through my art.” 

    Jurupa Hills junior and SL student Kristine Foronda was an art novice when she began the class, but quickly realized the extent that art could be a portal for her political views. She created a mixed media tribute to slain Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, overlaying the colors of the United States and Saudi Arabia on newsprint.

    “I joined the art class to challenge myself. It just seemed natural to be a part of it,” Foronda said. “I have learned so much about using art to push for social reform.”

    The art show raised $750 for the charities and the scholarship fund.
